Feb. 19th, 2004 02:44 amI am wondering about a post over somewhere about implied pairings and beta readers. I think it may be on
fellow_shippers, but I don't know for certain, and no, I'm not double checking just for you tossers. Anyway, point of rant: why do we take our fiction so seriously as to have beta readers? And why must we do what these people say? I read a comment on the aforementioned post that stated roughly that if a beta reader suggests you include an implied pairing, then you should. Why? Who are these beta readers? Are they renowned literary critics? I've read some stories that their authors claim have been beta-read, and there are glaring grammatical and spelling errors in them. I wouldn't trust one of these so-called betas with my fiction. I think I'll leave my untrue facts and ambiguous pairings the way they are.
And American authors need to stop writing in British English. It really is quite annoying. Thanks.
