Just Hear Me Out...
Nov. 13th, 2008 03:10 amI've just finished reading Twilight, and I have to say that it isn't as bad as I was expecting. Yes, it's fanfiction. But it isn't horrible fanfiction. Yet. I can only imagine how I'll feel after reading the second book.
Edward didn't really strike me as overly controlling, just oddly smitten. The reason Smeyer gives for vampires traditionally only being out at night is weird, yeah, but strangely plausible. Do I like the sparkles? No, I think they're ridiculous, but amusing at the same time.
This isn't my favourite book by any stretch of the imagination, but it isn't the worst book I've read. That honour actually belongs to A Confederacy of Dunces, believe it or not.
God, what am I saying? That I actually enjoyed Twilight, that's what I'm saying. Heaven help us all.
(I think the trick is to not expect too much, and to just allow yourself to be entertained for entertainment's sake.)
