seethingheathen: (holy shit)
I've just finished reading Twilight, and I have to say that it isn't as bad as I was expecting. Yes, it's fanfiction. But it isn't horrible fanfiction. Yet. I can only imagine how I'll feel after reading the second book.

Edward didn't really strike me as overly controlling, just oddly smitten. The reason Smeyer gives for vampires traditionally only being out at night is weird, yeah, but strangely plausible. Do I like the sparkles? No, I think they're ridiculous, but amusing at the same time.

This isn't my favourite book by any stretch of the imagination, but it isn't the worst book I've read. That honour actually belongs to A Confederacy of Dunces, believe it or not.

God, what am I saying? That I actually enjoyed Twilight, that's what I'm saying. Heaven help us all.

(I think the trick is to not expect too much, and to just allow yourself to be entertained for entertainment's sake.)

Okay.

Well, I've just finished New Moon, and I must say that I'm a little surprised to find that I'm still entertained. Where is control-freak Edward? I'm still waiting for that misogynistic bastard to turn up.

I may just go ahead and read Eclipse before I go to work. I haven't decided yet.

EDIT: ....and there he is.

EDIT 2: .... and there he went again. Seriously? This is what people were calling misogyny? Jesus.
seethingheathen: (yeah okay)
Hrm.

I'm still not seeing how this is as horrible as I have been led to believe. Some parts of it are cheesy as fuck, but we're dealing with teenage werewolves and sparkly vampires, so what else could it be but cheesy?

I don't have time to read Breaking Dawn before work, so I'm going to go have a little nap.

I'm sure after I read that, the nausea will kick in, but I'm just not disgusted with the first three. It reads like something I would have written when I was fifteen, yeah, but it's been- dare I say it?- enjoyable.

Don't worry, I'm not going to be a fangirl. I'm still amazed that a grown woman is proud to have written this.
