Orlando sat in the greenroom, nervous as all fuck, wondering who would have brought him all the way from London to New York just to reveal a crush on him. He went over and over in his mind a list of all the American friends he had- most were made that summer he'd come to visit a second cousin in Malibu- and he couldn't think of anyone who might have hidden feelings for him. There were Kerry and Tracey- the twins, Jennie, Sonja, and Nisi. All girls. Well, there was one more- Elijah, but there was no way it'd be him. He was really hoping against hope that it was Elijah, since he'd fancied the boy from the start, and Orlando didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings by turning them down. Especially in front of so many people and on national television.

When the stagehand came to tell him that he would be on next, Orlando was shaking so hard he could barely stand, let alone walk to the stage where Maury Povich was waiting. Orlando had seen the show a few times, and had an idea of what might happen, but he couldn't shake the feeling that this was just going to be a big embarrassment for everyone involved. He decided that whoever it was, he would agree to the date, and then explain in private that he was very flattered, and very gay. That way, he could possibly still salvage the friendship. He loved all his girl mates, of course, just not like that.

When he walked out from behind the screen, Orlando received whistles and cheers and cries of "I'll take him, Maury!" from men and women alike. Hell, if things didn't work out, he could always get a few numbers from the audience. There were some blokes out there that Orlando wouldn't mind getting to know.

"Welcome to the show, Orlando. Have a seat," Maury said as he reached out to shake Orlando's hand. "Do you know why you're here?"

"Eh, someone fancies me, I reckon," Orlando responded, his accent earning more whistles and shouts from the studio audience.

"Any idea who it might be?"

"None, man. I've been back there thinking, and I just don't know."

"Well, we're going to help you out by playing a little game. I'll give you clues to help you figure out who it might be." As Maury finished speaking, the stagehand came out from backstage carrying a basket filled with ears of corn. Orlando had no idea what that could mean.

"No clue. Corn?"

"Okay. Maybe this will help." Maury grinned as a snippet of Bullet With Butterfly Wings played over the studio speakers. Orlando's palms began to sweat.

"Oh, God," he muttered, just loud enough for the clip-on microphone to pick up. "It can't be."

"Are you ready to meet your secret crush, Orlando?"

"Yeah, man. I am." Orlando turned to see Elijah walking toward him, a look of uncertainty on his face. The reaction from the audience this time was a mixture of tentative applause and nervous gasps. Elijah sat in the chair next to Orlando's and folded his hands in his lap.

"Do you know this person?" Maury asked, gesturing toward Elijah.

"Yeah, that's Elijah. He's my good mate." Orlando could not keep the tremble out of his voice. "Eh, hey, Lij."

"Well, Elijah, what have you brought Orlando here to tell him?" As if no one knew. As if the title of the show wasn't You're My Secret Crush.

"Orli, I, oh God, I can't- I'm in love with you."

"Oh, Elijah," Orlando started to say, but Elijah cut him off.

"I hope this doesn't ruin our friendship, but I had to tell you. Every time I talked to you, I wanted to tell you, but I was scared."

"Shit- oh sorry Maury- Elijah, man, you'd better not be joking. I don't think I could take it if you were."

"No, I'm not kidding. I'm really madly in love with you."

When Orlando reached over and took hold of Elijah's hand, the audience erupted in cheers and more applause, and then the show went to commercial.

==========

After the studio-paid dinner date, Orlando and Elijah went back to Elijah's hotel room. He'd told Orlando there was something waiting for him there, just in case the endeavour had been successful. When Elijah opened the door, Orlando hadn't seen anything unusual, so he wondered why Elijah would need pretence to get him up to his room.

They had barely taken three steps into the room and had shut the door behind them when Elijah took Orlando's hand and led him toward the bed. "Can I, Orli? Can I make love to you?"

"Oh, Lij," Orlando said before covering Elijah's mouth with his own. "Please do."
