Chapter One

Moonlight crept in through the window, bathing the room in silver-blue. The sole occupant of the large wooden bed began to stir, but did not awaken; a deep sigh escaped his lips, and he settled deep into the soft bedding. Golden hair framed a pale face; a lightly muscled arm peeked out from under a pillow. The archer was lost in his dreams, oblivious of the presence on the small balcony outside the window.

Haldir sat perched on the ornate wooden rail, gazing at Legolas. The Prince was beautiful when he slept. The serene look on his face gave no indication of the burden he and his companions bore, that the fate of civilisation was in their hands. Looking at Legolas gave Haldir his own peace, and truth be told, he had fallen in love with him. This feeling was strange to Haldir, as he had never felt thus for one of his own sex.

The Guardian had long pondered ways to reveal his feelings to Legolas, but could think of none. In any case, he wasn't certain the Prince would return his affections, and he wasn't about to wound his pride. Haldir would have to be content with the friendship that had quickly grown between the two. So there he sat, staring, his heart heavy.

The sleeping Elf stirred again, this time opening his eyes a fraction. He could see a figure silhouetted on the balcony, but he did not know who was watching him. As he opened his eyes further, Legolas realised it was the March Warden, and a smile graced his lips.

"Haldir," he spoke, "why do you sit at my window?"

"There is much beauty in Lorien," responded the watcher, "and much beauty in this very room. I was simply admiring it." His heart spoke the words, his head useless to stop it. The prince would surely laugh. Haldir was surprised when he did not.

Legolas flushed at the compliment, the smile never leaving his face. "Come in and sit with me. I would enjoy your company."

Haldir climbed in through the window and sat in the chair to the left of the bed. A nightshirt was draped across the back of it, and Haldir realised for the first time in the all the nights that he'd spent outside that the Prince slept in the nude. This realisation sent a wave of heat through the Guardian's body.

"How fare you this night?" Legolas sat so he faced his guest, the sheet falling to barely cover his lap. His chest was smooth and lightly muscled, his stomach was well defined, and there was a trail of light, thin hair leading down from his navel to the patch at his groin. Strong archer's arms gave way to gentle hands and slender fingers. Haldir sat in awe at the vision before him.

"I seem to be having a bit of difficulty falling to sleep," Haldir answered blankly.

"Perhaps if you were lying in bed you would find the task a bit easier," Legolas laughed. "I have never had much success sleeping perched upon a balcony rail."

"On the contrary, fair Prince, lying in bed only serves to make things worse."

"Then you have not been lying in the right bed, Haldir." Legolas motioned to the unoccupied side of the bed. "Perhaps you can find rest here." Haldir removed his garments, save for his leggings, and sat on the edge of the bed. He could feel Legolas' eyes on his back, and he didn't know what to do. He wanted to lie down next to Legolas, to feel the smoothness of his skin against his own, but a part of him was ashamed of his desires. What would the other Galadhrim, especially Rumil and Orophin, think if they knew their captain was smitten with the ner? As if reading the last half of Haldir's thoughts, Legolas added, "Just lie here with me tonight. I ask nothing more of you."

What if I want you to? thought Haldir, too afraid to speak the words aloud. Taking his place next to Legolas on the bed, he mumbled, "Of course. I never presumed otherwise." His cheeks reddened from embarrassment. He'd misunderstood the Prince's offer. "I apologise for any offence, dear friend."

"There has been no offence," the younger Elf laughed. "Perhaps I was unclear. I said I asked nothing of you, however I did not say you could not give of your own accord." Legolas' eyes reflected the desire that Haldir felt. The bridge had been built, and now was the time to cross it. If only Haldir wasn't so afraid.

"Tonight, Legolas," Haldir whispered, "tonight we will spend as friends. I will stay in your chamber, in your bed, but nothing shall pass between us until my brothers have gone to the border. They depart the day after tomorrow. I hope you understand."

Legolas understood. Haldir wasn't the only one who wanted to keep his private life private. Haldir's brothers never seemed to have anything to do but harass Legolas, and he did not want to give them fuel for their fire. "Of course. We shall wait."

After a bit of conversation, the two Elves settled into the large wooden bed and fell asleep, Haldir's arm draped over Legolas.

Chapter Two

Legolas was the first to awaken in the morning. He lay looking at his still-sleeping companion, and pondered the previous night's conversation. The Prince had long suspected that Haldir fancied him, and the feeling was mutual.

When Haldir finally woke, he noticed Legolas looking at him. He looked exquisite in the light of the morning sun. Blood rushed between Haldir's thighs as he gazed into the Prince's eyes.

"I am glad you finally decided to pry your eyes open!"

"As am I," responded Haldir. "As lovely as you are in my dreams, you look even more so in reality." He smiled as Legolas blushed, his cheeks turning as pink as his sensuous lips.

"Haldir, you embarrass me with such words!" Legolas pulled his hand from under the covers and stroked Haldir's hair. "Though I do like to hear them."

Haldir covered the Prince's hand with his own, holding it gently. He wanted to pull Legolas closer to him and feel the warmth of their bodies pressed together. "You are perfect, a treasure for the eyes, and I have grown tired of admiring you in silence."

"You are no less a joy to look upon, dear Guardian."

The hand that had been in Haldir's hair now moved down his face, until Legolas' thumb lightly touched his soft lips. Haldir opened his mouth and let the tip of his tongue touch it. Legolas responded by pushing the thumb slowly into the Guardian's mouth, and Haldir sealed his lips around it, sucking on it. Legolas' eyes closed, and a soft moan escaped him.

Legolas pulled his thumb from Haldir's mouth and replaced it with his tongue, probing the moist warmth. Haldir had never before been kissed by a male, Elf or otherwise, and he was surprised at how it felt. There was a gentle, yet masculine, quality to it. Legolas suddenly became aware of Haldir's hesitation, and withdrew.

"Forgive me, I did not mean to be so insistent. I thought you wanted it."

"I did. I do. I have just never been in the company of one of my own."

Legolas looked thoughtfully at Haldir before responding. "I was not aware. I am honoured to have the privilege of your company." It was Haldir's turn to blush. The thought that this was not new to Legolas had never crossed his mind. He wondered with whom Legolas had shared his bed in the past.

"I never truly intended to reveal my desire for you. I never imagined it would be returned."

"You would be content to watch me through my window as I slept? Nothing ventured, nothing gained, Haldir." Legolas moved his hand down between Haldir's legs and into his leggings as he spoke. He curled his fingers around the Guardian's shaft, sliding them up and down the length. Haldir moaned, and Legolas covered his mouth with his own. This time, Haldir kissed Legolas back, exploring his mouth with his tongue. Legolas responded by quickening his pace on the Guardian's cock.

"Legolas," Haldir breathed between wet kisses, "Legolas, wait. I don't want to come like this."

Taking Haldir's cue, the Prince stopped his movements and slid down the bed, bringing his head between Haldir's legs. Haldir's toes curled as he felt Legolas' tongue slide down his entire length and back up, and nearly screamed when Legolas took him in his mouth.

Legolas slid Haldir's cock in and out of his mouth, sliding his tongue on the underside as he did. It didn't take long for the Guardian to explode in Legolas' mouth. He cried out so loudly as to wake the dead as Legolas swallowed every last drop. Legolas moved quickly to kiss Haldir, allowing him to savour his own delicious taste.

"So much for waiting for Rumil and Orophin to go on duty," Legolas laughed. "I suppose I ought to practise having patience."

Legolas had just finished those words when there was a knock at his chamber door. Startled, Haldir jumped from the bed, pulled his leggings back up, and pinned himself to the wall. Legolas was amused at this, but understood his actions. If anyone knew what had just transpired, the poor Guardian would die of embarrassment.

Legolas threw on his nightshirt and walked to the door. He opened it a crack to see who would come calling at such an early hour. Much to his surprise and chagrin, he saw Aragorn standing outside with Rumil. He opened his door a little further, but still not all the way.

"Good morning, Legolas," Aragorn greeted him with a smile. "I am sorry to wake you, but it seems Haldir's gone missing. His brothers are in desperate need to speak with him but he is not in his quarters."

"What makes you think I know where he's gone?" The tone in the Elf's voice was a bit defensive, and Aragorn caught it.

"You are friends, are you not? You usually spend your mornings together, do you not?"

"Yes, of course. But I have only just awoken." Legolas could see by the expression on the man's face that he was not buying this. "When I do see him, I shall let him know." Legolas had not lied, only deflected the sudden interrogation.

A sudden movement at the back of the room caught Rumil's eye. He leaned his head towards the opening in the door to try and see what it was. He caught a quick glimpse a figure in the mirror, and his keen Elven eyes registered that it was Haldir. A wicked grin spread across his face. Legolas could have kicked himself for opening the door so wide when he realised what, or who, Rumil had most likely seen.

"Come, Aragorn," Rumil said. "Prince Legolas said he would deliver the message, and I trust that he will."

"You have my word, Rumil." Legolas was relieved when the two turned and walked away, but he knew the relief would be short lived. Rumil had seen his brother here and would surely tell Orophin that Haldir had been hiding in his chamber. Now to tell Haldir he'd been caught.

Haldir groaned when Legolas told him. "This will not be good. Not if I know my brothers. I love them both dearly, but they can be bothersome at times."

"I am sorry. If you only wish to be friends, I will understand." Legolas took Haldir's hand in his, not wanting to hear the response.

"Nonsense. We will be together." Haldir squeezed Legolas' hand in assurance, and looked deep into his eyes. "It seems I have fallen in love with you, fair Prince."

Legolas was shocked at Haldir's admission. He knew there was a strong affection between the two, but love? They had been spending considerable time together and had gotten to now one another quite well over the past few weeks, so it was possible. Legolas had never considered it. Now perhaps he would.

*~*~*~*

Just after his midday meal with the Fellowship, Legolas decided he would climb a tree. He loved lounging in the branches of the mallorn, taking in the view that the high perch afforded him. He excused himself, and set off into the woods. He didn't get far.

"And what do we have here? A sweet little Princeling," a voice spoke above Legolas. "Orophin, look."

"Why yes, Rumil!" Orophin jumped from a branch in front of the Prince. "I wonder if he ever delivered that message to our brother."

Rumil leapt from the branch and stood next to Orophin. "I'm sure he did. Although, I hardly think that was necessary since Haldir was in his very chamber this morning. And half dressed, mind you."

"What concern of it is yours where Haldir spends his time?" Legolas was becoming angry, his fists were clenched at his sides.

"When his honour is at stake, Princeling, it is of grave concern to us." While speaking, Orophin gave nod to his brother, who suddenly lunged at Legolas, knocking him to the ground. "You will pay for what you have done! No one brings such shame upon the Galadhrim of Lorien! Not even the likes of a woodland Prince."
